13 Weeks From Race Day

I can't believe I'll be running a marathon in 13 weeks.  I can't believe I'll be running a marathon to train for that marathon in 9 weeks.

This weekend I joined the Bob to run our favorite 6 miles of hills out at Percy Warner.  I stumbled across a site that has some awesome pictures of where we run. Go check it out here. I'm very unlikely to ever run the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon, but I love getting out there about once a month to get a good hill workout on my legs.  I can't imagine running 26.2 miles out there.  The 6 I do just about gets me every time. There is one hill that goes up for well over half a mile.  By the time I get to the top, I feel amazing that I made it all the way up, but I also feel out of breath and have to stop to drink some water.

On the way home, we had to take a detour.  I realized once we came out of the neighborhood that we had to cut through that we were on the same road as the Krispy Kreme.  So I asked Bob, "If the hot sign is on, we're stopping, right?"  He looked at me.  We crested the hill.  We saw that bright red sign.  He turned on the blinker.

I have to say - getting a free, hot donut after a run is AWESOME.  I was tempted to get a few more, but since I only ran 6 miles I resisted.

But let me just say... it's a good thing that Krispy Kreme isn't close enough to home to stop by more often. I'd have to start running ultras!

So true! Nothing beats a fresh Krispy Kreme donut. (Sadly, there isn't one around here - please eat one for me!)

Oh no. Does that mean I'm supposed to be running a half-marathon in 13 weeks?? I better get on starting those long runs soon. Like now.

I think the right ratio for mileage:Krispy Kreme is 3:1. So for a 6 mile run, you would have been okay to go for the second donut :)

I did the Country Music Half in 06 and I loved it (even as I was hating it for the last 3 miles). I am really hoping I follow through and try it again. I need to go ahead and register to make sure I do it!
