Have You Ever Visited or Lived in Portland, Oregon?

I ask that question because I just booked a flight out there!

I have a cousin who lives there, and when he said I should come visit I asked when? (Here's the thing people.. if you invite me to come visit, I'm probably going to come visit.)

I'll be getting into town late on Friday August 21st and staying until about lunchtime on Wednesday the 26th.

My questions to you:

1. What do I absolutely need to do while I'm in Portland?
2. Does anyone who live there want to meet up for a run at some point?

I'm super excited about getting to take another trip. Before you start thinking money grows on my trees, I should tell you that Southwest is having INCREDIBLE deals right now. I can only afford to go because the flight was CHEAP considering I'm flying across the country, and I've got a free place to stay while I'm there.

I really do love to travel. God bless the man who marries me. I hope he's got the same love for experiencing new places that I do!

I spent two days in Portland, Oregon, in 2002. Don't remember much more than going around the university campus and having fresh tuna for the first time in my life.

I hope this trip turns out just as fun as the one you just came home from. :)

My family has visited, but I've never gone. Let me know how it is, because we are looking for places to visit.

Hey Mel, Marianna referred me to your blog! This is cool! I grew up in Portland so I am quite familiar with family stuff to do...if you want to know nice restaurants or bars I wouldn't really know them.

Must sees:
Columbia River Gorge (30 minutes away and tons of great hikes. Eagle Creek is the most famous trail and Multnomah Falls is an awesome waterfall)
Pioneer Square
Waterfront Park
Powell Books
Saturday Market
VooDoo Donuts
Rose Garden

Restaurants: The original McCormick and Schmicks is in Portland, Veritable Quandary is generally regarded as the best restaurant. My favorite late night hang out is the Doug Fir or around the Pearl District. Stumptown Coffee is my favorite coffee shop.

Day Trips:
Oregon Coast: my favorite is Newport because it is less touristy, there is a lighthouse, Moe's Clam Chowder and Rogue Brewery. (1.5 hours)
Canon beach: (where goonies was filmed) is also a good option.
Mt. St. helens is fun to drive up too (1.5 hours)
