I told myself before I even ran Disney that I was taking 2 weeks off after the race.
It turns out that I took 2 1/2 weeks. I think giving my body a for real break was definitely the smart thing to do.
Granted, I've been doing some simple strength stuff and p90x Abs Ripper here and there. I've also been playing my Just Dance Wii game, which is a bit of a cardio workout.
Nonetheless, I didn't know what to expect for my first run back. I had hoped I'd feel light and refreshed and like running had never been easier... instead I felt kind of sluggish and heavy. I know it just takes some time to bounce back, but I was really hoping for my unrealistic expectations to be met, ha.
I just ran about 3 miles, deciding that there's no sense overdoing it. I know I'll do a long run this weekend and before I know it I'll be back to normal.
But I've got to tell you... as much as I think true rest is important to recover, it really does stink that it can be a bit hard to get going again after the break.
The first run is the hardest - glad to have that one behind me now.
