Moving Day is Coming!

We are less than a week out from our big move back home to Tennessee... and we cannot wait!

We're busy getting things in order, planning for the stuff we need to get done this weekend before the movers show up on Monday, making to do lists of stuff we need to do the first week we're back to TN (since we're taking some time off work and will actually have time to do things like register our cars, etc.) and generally just getting so freaking excited.

No offense to anyone who is nice or friendly or happy in Indiana (I have to believe those people are out there), but we have encountered more rude, unfriendly, unprofessional, uncaring people in this state than we have ever met. I was not surprised when reports came out that Nashville, TN is one of the top 10 happiest cities in the US while Indianapolis was one of the top 10 unhappiest cities in the US. The lack of customer service at businesses has been exceptionally and impressively frustrating.

I know no one is perfect and that situations come about from time to time anywhere, but after 30 years in TN and 1.5 years in IN I can honestly say I've had more bad encounters here than ever before back home.

But even more than all of that? We absolutely can't wait to be closer to our family (especially Connor!) and friends. It's going to be so great to see everyone so much more often and without a 4-6 hour drive (because the people of Indiana also don't know how to drive, properly maintain their roads or do construction on the roads efficiently and it's always a gamble how long it will take to get down 65 and out of this state.)

Adam and I have some good memories here. We did spend the first year of our marriage here after all, and in some ways it was good for our marriage that we were aware from our "home" to learn how to make wherever we are together our home... but that doesn't negate how freaking ecstatic we are to get back to Nashville.

The south is where we belong, and particularly TN.... we're coming for ya!

(PS - I've been trying to blog more frequently, but please forgive me in advance that I may not post for a bit until we get moved and settled!)

Our First Anniversary

One year ago today, I married the love of my life. Not only did I become a wife to an amazing man, I also became a step-mom to an amazing little boy.

As I think back on that day and see pictures, it feels like not much time has passed at all. Seeing each other for the first time that day...

Seeing Connor for the first time that day...

Little man walking down the aisle right before me to announce my entrance...

Saying our vows and knowing this day was beginning our marriage...

Our first kiss as husband and wife...

Our first dance to DMB's "Steady as We Go..."

My first dance with Connor to Lennon and Maisy Stella's "Ho Hey..."

Dancing the night away with all of our family and friends...

And leaving to head to Italy on our honeymoon and begin our life together...

It's been an amazing year. In some ways it's felt long, like when I remember the brutal winter in Indiana. In other ways, I really can't believe it's already been a year.  We've crammed a lot of trips back and forth to TN in over the last 52 weeks as well as some travels of our own together. We've been to concerts. We've gone to visit friends. We've laughed, we've cried, we've cuddled, we've argued. We've bought our first house and are moving in just a couple of weeks back to our home of Tennessee.

But more than anything that has happened, I think about this amazing man I found in Adam. I think about our story from over the last 11 years and how God always had the most perfect timing in weaving our lives in and out of each other's until it was time to truly bring us together. I think about how we both experience so much in our lives before we began dating that has shaped us into the kind of spouses and the kind of parents we are today.

And I can't wait to see what happens in the many more years of our marriage to come.

I love you, Adam.  You're my person.  Happy anniversary!

DMB in Tampa

When Adam and I realized that our favorite band - Dave Matthews Band - was playing in Tampa while we would be there on vacation, there was no question that we would go. We knew it'd be good for the grandparents and Connor to have a little time together without us around, and it gave us another state to cross off where we'd be seeing Dave together.

We are Warehouse members and always buy our tickets through the club, and on a whim Adam decided to throw our name in the hat to see if we could get pit tickets. And we did! We were a little nervous about it. As we get older, we admittedly are becoming less tolerant of crowds and people being in our personal space. But we knew we needed to do this at least once.

I was straight up impressed with how close were were to the stage when we got there!

We really enjoyed the acoustic set, and it was so awesome being that close to the stage. We ended up chatting a good bit before it started with the folks around us and found ourselves around some cool people who all also believed in personal space.

When the second set started, the crowd sort of pushed down and packed in... I suppose it was inevitable. I definitely felt a little smushed, but all in all it was still just epic to see all the action from this close!

We heard a pretty good set list, including one of our favorites - You and Me! We used this song in our wedding last year, and as we approach our first anniversary (August 9), it was neat to hear it live as part of the encore.

I'm glad we were able to fit in a few hours of time just the two of us during our vacation. We returned to the condo to find little man sleeping hard. Nana and Papa reported they'd had a nice walk on the beach, enjoyed dinner, played some games and watched a movie. Definitely a fun night for everyone before having to head back to Indy the next day!

Waterpark Fun

Everyone in my family knows that I am not really a fan of endless sitting on the beach for days and days. We have always had to break up our beach trips with a visit to Busch Gardens and to Adventure Island. I didn't feel any differently about this even with a husband and child with us for the first time, haha. Plus, we know it's good for Connor to have different activities as well.

He's not quite tall enough for most of the rides at Busch Gardens, so we opted to stick with a day at the water park this time. We had taken him to a water park for the first time last summer, and he LOVED it. This year was no exception! He was all smiles and laughs all day, and we played and played from the time the park opened until it closed.

Seeing the pictures of how much fun he was having makes me even more confident that we do the right thing by breaking up the beach time with some activities like this!
